Fall Trend: Denim button up

Hello lovely people! I've missed you! Okay, so I'm back but still not on a regular schedule. I'm going to try and post when I have some slower days at work (like today) but I'm pretty much working 60 hours a week right now so I still can't be very consitent on posting. Definitely one of the few downfalls of getting a big girl job, but otherwise I'm loving it and grateful to be given the opportunity.

Anyway, I don't know about the rest of the world but in NY and NJ fall has officially hit and I for one am ecstatic. This weather is BEAUTIFUL and I wake up everyday excited to break out some fall favorites. I've been making a list of some new things that I want to get as the weather cools down to add to my closet staples and number one is definitely a denim button up. I've been seeing them everywhere worn in a bunch of different ways. Below are three options that I love for the button up and can't wait to try as soon as I get one of my own. Any suggestions on where I should go to buy one?

I'll Be Seeing You...

Hi my loves! I'm going to get right to it, I think I have to take a bit of a hiatus. Since I've got the new job and I'm going to be keeping my old part time job too for the time being I'm going to be working 7 days a week. This doesn't leave me with a ton of time for blogging. I'm hoping to be back on a regular schedule within the next couple weeks so that I post daily again but for now I'll be posting rarely. Please don't forget about me over here at Color the Coast! For the time being enjoy this picture of the most glamorous women I've ever seen.

DIY: Glitter Frame

I can't believe it's Wednesday already. I just got back to New York and I'll be back to work in the city tomorrow! I'm excited to head back into the office but just a warning the next few posts probably won't come until late in the day. Today is the second half of yesterdays glitter DIY. Today I used the same glitter nail polish to glitterize a plain black frame. My friend's entire bedroom is done in pink and black so this will go perfectly with the martini glass and her decor. Here are some before and after pictures.

I wish I had a better camera besides my iphone because these things are coming out much prettier in person than they are on screen, but you get the idea.

Oh yeah, side note. Did any of you know that Marshall's sells Essie nailpolish now?! It's half the price! Seeing it in the store this morning made my day!

DIY: Glitter Glass

Good morning, I hope you're have a lovely Tuesday so far. I just woke up and I feel like I could sleep for another 12 hours. Ughhhhh.

Today's tutorial is SUPER easy to do and it comes out looking awesome. Plus it uses one of my favorite things, GLITTER! (I'm such a girl, I know).  I made it as a gift for a friend of mine. All you need is A plain martini glass and glitter nail polish.

Step one: Clean your glass and pick your color.

Step two: Paint the part of the glass that you want to glitter. I painted the bottom part of the stand and painted up from the top of the stand so that the glitter ended before it reached a point where you put your mouth.

Ta-Da!

This picture doesn't do it justice, the glass look awesome. I'm going to place it with tomorrow's project (stay tuned) and a bottle of her favorite liquor. Easy, inexpensive and adorable. Happy glittering!

DIY: Dry Erase Calendar

Hiiiii everybody! So I'm back in NJ after a week of temping at what I'm hoping is going to be my first big girl job (!!!). It was a lot of fun working in the office but I was exhausted so I completely slacked on you. But don't worry, I'm back now so we can all take a deep breath and relax as we head into Martha Stewart territory.

This week I'm going to expand a little more on my DIY aspect of the blog. There are a couple projects I'm working on so as I finish the smaller ones I'm going to share them with you. I've seen today's idea all over Pinterest lately so I thought I'd give it a try. This DIY dry erase calendar is super cheap and easy to do. I went to home depot and picked out a bunch of paint chips that I wanted to use (I chose to fade my calendar in red and oranges so that it has an end of summer/fall feel). Then I hit the dollar store for some dry erase markers and a frame.

My frame is only an 8x10 because I want to keep it on my desk. I measured out five squares down and seven across and cut a corner out of each paint chip so that I had 35 little squares. Then I glued the squares down in rows on a white piece of paper (computer paper or even the back of the display picture in the frame will work) so that the colors would fade from dark to light. Then I popped the paper in the frame and I was done!

Unfortunately, the dollar store dry erase markers weren't great so the actual writing looks a little sloppy. I'm gonna head to Staples and pick up a couple better quality ones today. But I was happy with the way the calendar itself came out and with how easy the project was. Now I can look at my ever-growing schedule in pretty colors!

Sorry I'm Slacking.

Hi friends! I apologize for this week's lack of posts, I promise I didn't forget about you! The good news is I've almost got the job I was interviewing for last week. I'm temping for two weeks while they decide whether or not they like me which is why I've been neglecting all of you. I had planned to do posts like normal all week but I'm staying in NY with a friend and there were some internet issues. Plus getting up at 6am everyday is harder than I remember, I've been passing out early. Anyway, things will be up and running like normal again next week. Until then take a look at Lauren Conrad's new fall line for Kohl's which she posted on her blog recently. It's amazing (her stuff always is) and if I get this job I'm treating myself to the dotted pink dress and that floral blazer. Adorable and office appropriate.

Don't Skirt the Issue

Winning Combinations

Okay, so I'm not too late on posting today. My interview went well (I think) so now I'm playing the waiting game (basically every time my phone rings I hold my breath). It's day three of the what-to-wear-to-work posts and today I focused on skirts and blouses. Skirts should pretty much always be knee length or lower when going to the office (not too much lower though, you don't want to look dowdy). The last skirt here is cutting it a little close but add some tights and I think it's perfectly appropriate if you're working as a receptionist, secretary, teacher, etc. The two in the middle are definitely power outfits, all clean lines, great fits and classic accessories. The first look is a little bit of retro fun that I thought I'd throw in for s's&g's. I'm off to spend my day off staring at my phone, enjoy your humpday everyone!

Work Bling

Work appropriate accesories

Good morning! It's day two of my going-to-work themed post and good news, I've scored a second interview! Which means that tomorrow's post is going to be up late in the day because I'm going to spend tomorrow morning trying not to throw up from nervousness. Anyway, just because you're supposed to look conservative at work (at least most of us are supposed to I assume) it doesn't mean that you can't love what you're wearing. Above are some office friendly choices that will still have you feeling fabulous all day long.

Work It

work wardrobe

Happy Monday people. To be honest I'm not as enthusiastic as I usually am when I say that because usually I sleep in on Monday's since it's actually like my Sunday. However, today I have an interview that I have to leave for in about an hour so I had to rise and grind. Anyway, the good news is my interview has inspired today's (and actually the next couple day's) post. Since summer is quickly coming to an end it's time for most people to get out of happy summerland and get their minds back into the real world. What better way to get back into work mode than by revamping your wardrobe. So this week as part of my prep-for-September themed posts we're going to talk work appropriate fashion. Above are three looks that use dresses and jackets, a simple go-to when getting ready for the office. However, even if all you wear are dress and jacket combos you don't need to wear the same thing everyday, mix it up, go crazy, wear a metallic blazer like the blue Valentino one above. I like the idea of mixing contrasting colors, but sometimes matching the pallet is just as nice. Experiment a little and have fun, you might find you can give your work wardrobe a facelift by trying new combos without even buying anything (the ultimate goal). Now cross your fingers and wish me luck that I get this job!

Here Comes Fall...

Cozy Cover Ups

Okay, I know nobody wants to face the fact that it's August. We're officially in the home stretch of summer here. As much as I'm going to miss the lazy days, happy hour on the deck, and lying in the sun I am at least a little bit excited about fall. I love, love, love sweater, boots and jackets. Come on people, I know you all do too. So through out this month I'll be giving you some ideas on stocking up on cozy fall items for your wardrobe. Today we're talking jackets. Whether it's a soft cape or a cool cord denim jacket, you need to stay stylish and warm next season. My go to jacket for fall and spring is usually a trench and there are a couple of good options above (my dream is to own a Burberry trench coat. ONE DAY people, one day. It will be mine). A leather jacket is a great way to add a little badass to your outfit with zero effort. I instantly feel more rebellious as soon as I put one on. Unfortunately, I lost my favorite leather jacket last year at a bar and I have yet to replace it. I guess I'd better get shopping.

DIY Lace Case

Today I've decided to venture into the unknown and take on a DIY project for my blog. I've always kind of intended to have an all around style blog instead of just focusing on fashion so this might be the start of the move in that direction (wow, I just reread that sentence, how noncommittal can I be? Oh well, I'm leaving it). I've seen a ton of DIY iPhone cases so I decided to try one of my own. Since I'm on a fixed budget I used things I already had to make a pretty trendy and girly case for my phone, if I do say so myself.

What You'll Need:

1 Cheap cell phone case
1 Piece of lace
Modge Podge
Paintbrush

Directions:

Cut the lace to fit the back of the cell phone case. Make sure to choose a case in a color that you like because you're still going to see it. I cut my lace so that it left the corner of the case showing where the camera lens is, but if you want to cover the entire back go for it, just cut a hole in that space.

I left a little bit of an edge around the case so that the lace could wrap around the side and stick better.
Next, cover the entire back of the case in modge podge. Make sure to get around the edges so that the lace sticks in place.

Let the modge podge dry completely, then use a toothpick to pull away any excess modge podge that may have dried in the crevices of the case. When your done it should look like this:

Here's me enjoying my sweet new case (made even sweeter because it cost me zero dollars!)

Fashiongram

Hi my loves! I apologize for the lack of post yesterday, I had some technical difficulties but things are back on track at the moment. So for most of us, Instagram is a great tool to take pictures of food porn, cute puppies, and to document our drunken evenings for all the world to see. However, there are other uses for this rapidly growing app, one of them being fashion. TONS of people are using Instagram to show off their oh-so-fab outfits of the day (#ootd) their newest finds (#whateverbrandyou'repimpingouttoday) and even to sell their merchandise (#nameofyourcompany). Bloggers (including me) are using it to promote themselves and their brand. Anyway, the point is Instagram is awesome for fashion inspiration. Here are my favorites from those that I'm currently following.
